MUMBAI: The boundaries weren’t the only thing getting bigger at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. Advertising, too, found its sweet spot, with brands padding up in greater numbers as the tournament delivered stronger commercial intensity and proved that women’s cricket is becoming an increasingly valuable stage for marketers.

Commercial advertising during the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 witnessed a sharp rise in advertiser participation, with the number of advertisers increasing 41 per cent year on year and advertising intensity per match climbing 39 per cent compared with the previous edition, according to a TAM Sports analysis. The study covered all live matches across the tournament while excluding pre, mid and post-match programming, promotions and broadcaster inventory.

The tournament featured 33 matches across 20 channels, compared with 23 matches across 13 channels during the 2024 edition. While overall advertising volumes declined 26 per cent from 2024 because India failed to reach the semi-finals, the average advertising intensity per match remained significantly higher than the 2023 edition, underlining stronger commercial demand.

India continued to be the biggest magnet for advertisers. Matches involving the Indian team generated 58 per cent higher advertising volumes than non-India fixtures, reinforcing the country’s influence on television advertising during global cricket tournaments. The final also attracted heightened advertiser interest, recording a 17 per cent increase in ad intensity over the 2024 final.

The advertiser base broadened considerably during the tournament. The number of advertising categories increased from 24 to 27, while advertisers grew from 22 to 31, although the total number of brands dipped marginally from 40 to 39.

Consumer-facing sectors dominated the advertising mix. Personal Care and Health & Wellness Products emerged as the largest category with a 15 per cent share of advertising volumes, tied with Biscuits at 15 per cent. E-commerce services followed with 13 per cent, while Corporate Financial Institutions accounted for 12 per cent and Energy Drinks contributed 7 per cent. Together, the top five categories accounted for 63 per cent of total advertising volumes, up from 48 per cent in the previous edition.

The tournament also witnessed a complete reshuffle among leading advertisers. Google emerged as the biggest advertiser with a 16 per cent share of ad volumes, followed by Coca-Cola India and Amway India Enterprises, each at 11 per cent. Jindal Steel & Power accounted for 9 per cent, while Policybazaar Insurance Brokers contributed 7 per cent. Notably, none of the top five advertisers from the 2024 tournament featured among the leading advertisers in 2026.

A similar shift was visible at the brand level. Google Search Engine led all brands with a 16 per cent share of advertising volumes, followed by Jindal Panther TMT Rebars at 9 per cent, Policybazaar.com and HDFC Life at 7 per cent each, and Thums Up at 6 per cent. The top five brands together contributed 45 per cent of advertising volumes, compared with 42 per cent in 2024.

When it came to creative strategy, advertisers overwhelmingly preferred shorter commercials. 11 to 20-second advertisements accounted for 60 per cent of all commercials during the tournament, followed by 21 to 40-second spots at 32 per cent. Advertisements lasting 10 seconds or less made up 7 per cent, while commercials exceeding 41 seconds represented just 0.4 per cent of total ad inventory.

The findings underline the growing commercial appeal of women’s cricket, even as India’s early exit impacted overall advertising volumes. With more advertisers entering the fray, higher advertising intensity and stronger category participation, the tournament is increasingly evolving from a sporting spectacle into a premium marketing platform for brands looking to engage mass audiences.
