MUMBAI: Vi has just made India’s prepaid market a touch more interesting, striking an exclusive tie-up that bundles Spotify Premium into three new recharge plans, no extra cost, no separate subscription, just one recharge that now does double duty as an entertainment pass. The telecom operator is pitching it as the most economical prepaid lineup in the country with a music benefit attached, and on the numbers, that claim holds up.

The flagship is the Rs 435 Vi Non-Stop Hero plan, built for the heaviest data and entertainment users. It throws in Spotify Premium alongside unlimited 4G/5G data, unlimited calls, 100 SMS a day and JioHotstar mobile access, all on a 28-day validity. For customers who want the music benefit without the premium price tag, the Rs 250 plan trims things down to 2GB data, unlimited calls and 300 SMS, still with Spotify Premium included. And for those who already have a base plan and just want an entertainment top-up, the Rs 230 pack is arguably the sharpest of the three, stacking Spotify Premium with access to over 20 OTT platforms including JioHotstar, ZEE5, SonyLIV, FanCode and Lionsgate Play, plus 30GB of high-speed data.

The strategic logic here is straightforward. Music has become one of the stickiest drivers of digital engagement among younger consumers, and Vi is betting that ad-free streaming, offline downloads and high audio quality will pull in a Gen Z audience that treats entertainment bundling as a baseline expectation rather than a bonus. Spotify, for its part, gets access to Vi’s prepaid base at a moment when it is already sitting on more than 761 million users and 293 million subscribers globally across over 180 markets, so the tie-up is far from one-sided.

Activation has been kept simple by design, recharge with an eligible pack, head to the Claim Benefits page in the Vi App, hit claim next to Spotify Premium, and sign in or create an account to unlock it instantly. The benefit runs on the recharge cycle, meaning customers keep the ad-free experience rolling simply by topping up again on expiry, a neat mechanic that quietly builds recharge loyalty. With Netflix, Amazon Prime, JioHotstar, SonyLIV and ZEE5 already sitting in its entertainment portfolio, Vi’s move to fold in Spotify rounds out a genuinely comprehensive bundle, and gives the operator a sharper answer to rivals chasing the same young, content-hungry subscriber base.
