Bigg Boss Bangla to premiere on 30 August with Sourav Ganguly
Star Jalsha and JioHotstar set to launch Bengal edition with eight sponsors
MUMBAI: Bengal is getting ready to enter the house, and this time there is no exit gate in sight. Bigg Boss Bangla is set to bring its familiar mix of alliances, arguments and unexpected twists to Bengali television, with cricket legend Sourav Ganguly taking the hosting chair.
The Bengali edition of the reality entertainment franchise will premiere on 30 August, exclusively on Star Jalsha and JioHotstar. The show will be hosted by Ganguly and is owned and produced by Banijay Asia and EndemolShine India.
Built around the theme ‘Durgo Joy Shohoj Noy’, meaning conquering the fort is not easy, the season will centre on resilience, strategy and adaptability as contestants navigate shifting relationships and an unpredictable game.
The format will retain the core Bigg Boss ingredients—personalities thrown together under one roof, evolving friendships, rivalries, emotional confrontations and gameplay while giving the franchise a distinctly Bengali setting and cultural lens.
Ganguly’s appointment gives the regional launch a strong sports-entertainment crossover. Speaking about his new role, he said the constantly changing pressure inside the house would test contestants’ ability to stay calm, think ahead and respond to new situations.
For JioStar, the launch marks another regional expansion for one of India’s best-known reality formats. Sumanta Bose, Head of Entertainment Business, Hindi and Regional (East & West), JioStar, said the Bengali edition would use the format’s established entertainment appeal while reflecting Bengal’s culture, emotions and character.
The commercial response has also started taking shape ahead of the premiere. Asian Paints has come on board as Co-Title Sponsor, while Everyuth Naturals and Britannia Marie Gold are Co-Presenting Sponsors.
Fortune Refined Soyabean Oil and Comfort have joined as Co-Powered By Sponsors, with Oshea Herbals and Dazzler Eterna as Special Partners and Godrej Consumer Products as the Associate Partner.
The sponsor line-up gives the show a sizeable commercial base even before it opens its doors, reflecting advertiser interest in regional entertainment properties with established national recognition.
Inside the house, however, the rules of the game will be less predictable. The season promises shifting alliances, changing rules and challenges designed to ensure that today’s strongest contestant could become tomorrow’s vulnerable player.
With Ganguly at the helm and a format built around constant twists, Bigg Boss Bangla is looking to turn the Bengali market into its newest reality-TV battleground. The fort opens on 30 August; whether anyone can conquer it is another story.
