New launches target rising demand for lightweight daily sun protection

MUMBAI: India’s sunscreen shelf is getting less sticky and far more sophisticated. As skincare consumers grow increasingly ingredient-savvy and UV-conscious, Fixderma has expanded its dermatologist-backed Shadow sunscreen portfolio with two new SPF 50+ launches aimed squarely at the modern “wear-it-everyday” user. The skincare brand has introduced Shadow Light Fluid Sunscreen SPF 50+ and Shadow Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50+, both built around next-generation UV filters and lightweight formulations designed for Indian skin and climate conditions.

The move reflects a broader shift in the sunscreen category, where consumers are no longer treating sun protection as a beach-day afterthought but as a daily skincare essential. And with younger users scrutinising ingredient labels as closely as restaurant menus, texture, finish and formulation science have become just as important as SPF numbers.

The newly launched Shadow Light Fluid Sunscreen SPF 50+ uses advanced photostable UV filters including Uvinul A Plus, Tinosorb S-Lite and Uvinul T-150 to deliver broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection. The formula focuses heavily on what many sunscreen users complain about most greasiness, heaviness and the dreaded white cast.

Meanwhile, the Shadow Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50+ leans into the growing demand for mineral-led skincare. Formulated with Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide, the sunscreen targets sensitive and acne-prone skin while maintaining a lightweight, non-comedogenic finish. The addition of Bisabolol aims to soothe redness and irritation, positioning the product for both everyday wear and post-procedure skincare routines.

The expansion comes as sunscreen buyers increasingly prioritise multifunctional products that combine protection, comfort and cosmetic elegance in one tube.

Fixderma says the latest additions are designed to balance dermatological efficacy with consumer experience, a category tension that has become central to modern skincare.

Over the years, the brand’s Shadow range has built visibility among dermatologists and skincare consumers alike, particularly across oily, acne-prone, sensitive and dry skin categories.

And if the earlier generation of sunscreens felt like a reluctant summer obligation, the new-age SPF race appears to be selling something very different: protection that behaves more like skincare than armour.
