MUMBAI: Career moves rarely tell a story on their own, but Dhut’s does, a steady, deliberate climb through the engine rooms of Indian advertising and media that has now landed him at JioStar’s content marketing and brand solutions team. The appointment, effective this August, caps a professional journey that began at Ogilvy as an intern in 2012 and has since taken in stints at Saatchi & Saatchi, Genesis Advertising, and five years at Disney Star, the broadcaster that itself merged into the Reliance-backed JioStar juggernaut.

What stands out is the breadth rather than the speed. Dhut has spent fourteen years across brand management, marketing, content strategy, and client servicing, building the kind of generalist expertise that modern media houses increasingly prize over narrow specialism. His time at Disney Star alone spanned three distinct roles, from brand solutions and partnerships on the regional network to the entertainment vertical and eventually impact solutions for the creative side of the regional business. That is not a career of lateral shuffles, it is a deliberate ascent through increasingly senior creative and commercial mandates.

The move to JioStar is well timed. The merged entity, formed from the union of Disney Star and Reliance’s media assets, is now India’s largest broadcaster by some distance, and it needs precisely the kind of go-to-market fluency Dhut brings, from mining consumer insight and shaping creative briefs to overseeing television commercials, media planning, and digital strategy. His experience straddling both ATL and BTL marketing, alongside a strong grounding in client management and contract negotiation, positions him well for a business now competing on scale, content depth, and advertiser trust all at once.

For a media landscape being reshaped by consolidation, deals of the sort Reliance has been striking across financial services and telecoms this year, JioStar’s own formation being the most consequential example in entertainment, the quiet promotions of experienced hands like Dhut matter more than they might appear. Organisations built through mergers succeed or falter based on whether they retain institutional memory. Dhut, having watched Disney Star’s brand solutions function evolve from the inside, brings exactly that continuity to JioStar’s next chapter.
