Flipkart Minutes sees 24 per cent order jump during FIFA World Cup
Match hours boost snacks, beverages and merchandise demand on quick commerce
MUMBAI: When the whistle blew, so did the orders. The FIFA World Cup proved to be more than a sporting spectacle for Flipkart Minutes, with the quick commerce platform recording a 24 per cent increase in orders across 14 product categories during match hours as fans stocked up without leaving their screens.
According to insights shared by a Flipkart Minutes spokesperson, the tournament, held between 11 June and 19 July, drove higher demand across both metro and non-metro markets, highlighting the growing role of global sporting events in shaping consumer behaviour on quick commerce platforms.
The biggest winners were classic match-day essentials. Branded aerated beverages, savoury snacks and chocolates recorded 20 per cent higher order volumes during match hours compared with normal trading periods, as viewers increasingly relied on rapid deliveries for home screenings and watch parties.
To ride the football frenzy, Flipkart Minutes also introduced a dedicated FIFA World Cup merchandise store within its app, allowing fans to purchase themed merchandise alongside groceries and everyday essentials in a single order.
The initiative also translated into stronger engagement across food and beverage categories. According to the company, three out of every four products added to shopping carts through the World Cup merchandise experience were eventually purchased during match hours, with chips, namkeen and cold drinks emerging as the most popular additions.
The tournament also underscored the influence of younger shoppers on event-driven commerce. Gen Z consumers accounted for 44 per cent of all football-related orders placed on the platform, while search trends revealed growing interest in products ranging from party supplies and chocolates to protein chips and traditional savoury snacks.
The latest figures reinforce a broader trend emerging across India’s quick commerce industry, where major sporting events are becoming significant demand catalysts. As consumers increasingly choose to stay glued to live action rather than step out for last-minute purchases, platforms are adapting with event-specific storefronts, curated assortments and faster fulfilment.
For Flipkart Minutes, the World Cup wasn’t just about goals on the pitch, it also delivered a timely reminder that, in the era of quick commerce, the biggest match-day winner can sometimes be the delivery basket.
