Drunkenn Gurus Films crosses 30 crore views in micro-drama space

The Mumbai production house bets on television talent, AI-assisted frames and mythology-led originals to stand out in India’s crowded short-form drama race

MUMBAI: India’s micro-drama boom has spawned no shortage of production houses chasing quick views on vertical-format platforms, but Drunkenn Gurus Films is making a case for staying power over volume. The Mumbai outfit, founded and run by three industry professionals, has crossed 30 crore-plus views across its slate on platforms including Kuku TV, Pocket TV and Tangy TV, a milestone that places it among the format’s faster-growing players in a genre that rewards speed but rarely rewards memorability.

What sets the studio apart is a fairly simple bet: television-trained talent elevates micro-drama beyond its disposable reputation. Rather than leaning solely on creators built for short-form virality, Drunkenn Gurus Films has pulled in recognised television names, Ashnoor Kaur, Zain Imam, Nishant Malkani, Hasan Zaidi and Raymon Singh, across titles such as Rewind Wala Love and Rishqiyaan: Dil, Dosti aur Dhokha. The logic tracks. Micro-drama audiences may tolerate rougher production values in exchange for addictive plotting, but performance quality is precisely the lever that can turn a disposable three-minute watch into something an audience actively seeks out by name.

The hit list backs the strategy up. Gaonwala Super Husband leads the pack with 5.3 crore views, followed by Shoorveer Ka Agman and Badla at 2.8 crore apiece, with Crorepati No. 1, notable for blending real-time shoots with AI-generated frames, adding a further 2.6 crore. That AI-assisted production pipeline is worth dwelling on. Micro-drama economics live and die on cost efficiency, dozens of titles need to be produced quickly to keep platforms and audiences fed, and any technique that lets a studio manufacture visually richer frames without blowing up shoot schedules or budgets is a genuine structural advantage, not just a marketing line.

The studio’s next act, premium mythology-led micro-dramas, is a shrewder move than it might first appear. Mythology has long been a reliable ratings engine on Indian television, and shrinking it into short-form, cinematic world-building, AI-assisted visual scale, three-minute episodes, is a logical extension rather than a gamble. Founder Rajendra B. Patil framed the ambition plainly, arguing that as audience expectations around storytelling and production quality rise, the studio wants disciplined execution and cinematic sensibility on every project, not just its tentpole titles.

There is a broader read here too. Drunkenn Gurus Films isn’t positioning itself purely as a micro-drama shop, its parallel work in digital advertising and branded content, including campaigns for platforms like Seekho App, points to a studio building itself as an end-to-end content partner rather than a single-format bet. In a space where plenty of players are racing to flood platforms with volume, a studio explicitly chasing craft, talent and diversified revenue streams looks like the more durable position.
