Sony Pictures Networks India bags exclusive media rights for Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games
MUMBAI: Sony is betting on more than medals. It is banking on another summer of sporting drama. Sony Pictures Networks India has secured the exclusive media rights for the 2026 Commonwealth Games, bringing the quadrennial multi-sport event back to its network for audiences across the Indian subcontinent.
The 23rd Commonwealth Games will be held in Glasgow from July 23 to August 2, 2026. The event will be broadcast live on Sony Sports Network channels and streamed on Sony LIV.
The broadcaster is banking on strong interest from Indian viewers after the country’s standout performance at the 2022 Birmingham Games, where India finished fourth in the medals table with 61 medals, including 22 gold. With a mix of established stars and emerging athletes, expectations are high for another strong showing in Glasgow.
The 2026 edition will feature a more compact, athlete-focused programme comprising 10 sports, alongside what organisers describe as a record integrated Para sport programme with 47 medal events across six sports. Disciplines include athletics, swimming, artistic gymnastics, track cycling, netball, weightlifting, boxing, judo, bowls and 3×3 basketball.
Sony Pictures Networks India said it will provide multilingual coverage, expert analysis and extensive programming throughout the competition, covering everything from the opening ceremony to India’s medal-winning performances.
“The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games further strengthens Sony Sports Network’s position as the destination for premium live sport in India. The Commonwealth Games occupies a unique place in India’s sporting landscape, with every edition inspiring extraordinary performances,” said Sony Pictures Networks India chief revenue officer and business head, sports and international, Rajesh Kaul. He added that the network aims to deliver comprehensive multilingual coverage and expert storytelling as India pursues another successful campaign.
Welcoming the renewed partnership, Commonwealth Sport chief executive, Katie Sadleir, said Sony’s coverage would bring the Games to millions of fans across India while building excitement for the next phase of the movement, including the Centenary Commonwealth Games scheduled to be held in Ahmedabad in 2030.
The Glasgow Games will begin on July 23, with live coverage starting at 1 pm IST on Sony Sports Network and Sony LIV, as India looks to add another memorable chapter to its Commonwealth sporting journey.
