MUMBAI: The fifth season of HBO’s gangster saga The Sopranos debuts on HBO in the US on 7 March. This will comprise of 13 episodes.

In India the show airs on Zee English. A Variety report states that in the last episode of the fourth season titled Whitecaps a major fight broke out between the husband and wife team played by Edie Falco and James Gandolfini.

Last year HBO chairman and CEO Chris Albrecht said that the show would return for a 10-episode sixth season. This will begin production in early 2005. Last year there were doubts that this would happen as the writer David Chase had wanted to call it a day after the fifth season.

As reported earlier by Indiantelevision.com there have been disputes in the past between HBO and Gandolfini over payments. Gandolfini was locked in a legal battle with HBO in March. He wanted $16 million for the fifth season. HBO did not want to pay him over $11 million. Gandolfini eventually came around and decided to honour the original terms of the contract.
