Ruhee Patel promoted to director of originals marketing at HBO Max
Marketing executive rises through ranks after six-year journey at HBO Max.
MUMBAI: From streaming strategies to corner-office storytelling, Ruhee Patel’s latest career move proves that some marketing campaigns are built not just for shows, but for careers too. Ruhee Patel has been promoted to Director, Originals Marketing at HBO Max, marking the latest milestone in a career that has closely tracked the evolution of the streaming giant’s original content business over the past six years.
Patel announced the promotion on LinkedIn, describing the appointment as a moment of excitement as she steps into a leadership role overseeing marketing efforts for HBO and Max Originals.
The elevation caps a steady climb through the organisation since joining HBO Max’s Originals Marketing team in June 2020 as a strategy coordinator. Over the next six years, she moved through multiple roles, including strategy manager, senior manager, marketing strategy, and most recently Senior Manager overseeing marketing strategy for HBO and Max Originals before assuming the director’s position in June 2026.
Her journey reflects the increasingly important role marketing executives play in the streaming wars, where audience attention is often won long before viewers press play.
Based in Los Angeles, Patel has spent much of her career shaping campaigns for premium entertainment properties, helping position original content in an increasingly crowded global streaming marketplace. Her responsibilities have ranged from strategic planning and audience targeting to cross-platform campaign execution for HBO and Max Originals.
Before joining HBO Max, Patel spent nearly three years at Paramount Pictures, where she worked across brand strategy, digital marketing, research and analytics. During her tenure, she contributed to campaigns for major titles including Rocketman and A Quiet Place Part II, while also helping guide marketing activations across media, retail, publicity and social platforms.
Her experience extends beyond film studios and streaming services. Early in her career, Patel held internships and marketing roles at organisations including Paramount Pictures, Cavalry Public Relations and Kingston Technology. She also built a strong foundation during her university years through leadership positions at UCLA’s Cultural Affairs Commission and student media publication Daily Bruin.
Patel graduated summa cum laude from UCLA in 2018 with degrees in Communication Studies and Film & Television. She also attended the University of Cambridge’s Pembroke/King’s College International Summer Programme in 2017, studying subjects including international marketing and brand strategy.
The promotion comes at a time when content marketing has become one of the most critical functions within the global entertainment industry. As streaming platforms continue to compete for subscriber attention, executives responsible for positioning original content have become increasingly central to business growth and audience engagement strategies.
For HBO Max, Patel’s appointment underscores the company’s emphasis on experienced internal talent as it continues to expand its originals slate. For Patel, it marks the culmination of a six-year ascent through the streaming giant’s marketing ranks, one campaign, one strategy deck and one hit show at a time.
