Marketing strategist rises through HBO Max ranks after six years of growth

CALIFORNIA: HBO Max has promoted Ruhee Patel to director, originals marketing, marking the latest milestone in a career that has steadily risen through the ranks of one of the entertainment industry’s most influential streaming brands.

Patel announced the promotion on LinkedIn, sharing her excitement about taking on the new leadership role after more than six years with the company. Her appointment reflects a progression built on strategy, audience insights, brand development and original content marketing.

The promotion caps a notable journey within HBO and HBO Max. Patel joined the originals marketing team as a strategy coordinator in June 2020. Since then, she has advanced through a series of increasingly senior positions, serving as strategy manager, then senior manager of marketing strategy for HBO and Max Originals, before stepping into the director role in June 2026.

In a post announcing the news, Patel said she was “thrilled” to share her promotion, a brief but enthusiastic reflection on a career move years in the making.

Before joining HBO Max, Patel built her marketing credentials at Paramount Pictures, where she worked across brand strategy, digital campaigns, consumer research and media planning. During her tenure, she contributed to marketing efforts surrounding major releases including Rocketman and A Quiet Place Part II.

Her responsibilities at Paramount ranged from developing strategic campaign frameworks and managing agency relationships to analysing audience data and supporting executive presentations. The role provided a strong foundation in both the creative and analytical sides of entertainment marketing.

Patel’s experience extends beyond corporate roles. While studying at University of California, Los Angeles, she held several student leadership positions, including marketing co-director of the UCLA Cultural Affairs Commission. She also contributed to the student newspaper, Daily Bruin, as both a designer and arts and entertainment contributor.

Academically, Patel graduated summa cum laude from UCLA in 2018 with a degree in Communication Studies and Film & TV. She also spent time studying at University of Cambridge in 2017.

The promotion highlights both Patel’s long-term commitment to the HBO and Max brands and the growing importance of strategic marketing leadership in the increasingly competitive streaming landscape. As originals continue to play a central role in attracting and retaining audiences, Patel’s elevation signals confidence in a marketer who has already spent years helping shape the conversation around premium content.
