Sheikh, Tandon triumph at MTV Lycra Awards

MUMBAI: It was a colourful circus last night at the MTV Lycra Style Awards, which honoured the fashionable and stylish people in television, film, music, sports among other disciplines. As far as the small screen was concerned film star Raveena Tandon who has of late turned to television beat out the likes of NDTV anchor Nidhi Razdhan and television actor Gauri Pradhan to win the award.

“I guess that the jury did not want to be unkind to a pregnant woman,” Tandon jokingly remarked. Farookh Sheikh meanwhile defeated Navjot Singh Sidhu among others. The event had the circus theme running throughout. Clowns and magicians gave the presenters the names of the winners in a variety of innovative ways, which included bursting balloons. One act that had the audience in stitches involved a spoof on Troy. Two VJs dressed up in miniskirts. “Your socks look funny man. The left one is going up and the right one is going down.”

The musical acts were a mixed bag. While Pentagram is a rock band this writer couldn’t figure out what on earth they were playing when one of the fashion designers showcased his wares. Faring much better was the British band Trick Baby who did a fusion piece as the opening number Parde Ke Peechen.

There were two surprise film numbers that were performed. One involved the stars of Kitne Kool Hain Hum including Ishaa Koppikar and Neha Dhupia. The other saw the stars of Musafir including Sanjay Dutt strut their stuff.
