Asia Times Online taps New Skies Satellite for DTH venture
MUMBAI: Satellite communications company New Skies Satellites (NSS) has signed an agreement with Hong Kong-based Asia Times Online to deliver direct-to-home (DTH) television in Southeast Asia via the NSS-6 satellite.
Internet news portal Asia Times Online has dramatically expanded its service on New Skies’ NSS-6 Southeast Asia beam to support its growing regional direct-to-home television service. With a bouquet of news, educational, travel and entertainment channels catering to the Southeast Asia market, Asia Times Online is looking to capture a large subscriber base in the region.
NSS sales director for Asia Matthew Oh said, “The extension of Asia Times Online’s services on NSS-6 confirms the satellite as an excellent platform for the delivery of video programming to Asian audiences. New Skies is proud to be expanding our service offering to Asia Times Online, an established player in the Internet arena looking to grow its business in a new market segment.”
Asia Times Online director Wong Kwok Hwa said, “With the high power and extensive coverage of the NSS-6 Southeast Asia Beam, we are confident that our venture into direct-to-home television will be a success in Asia. In addition, our focus in delivering high quality programs through various languages will draw a large subscriber base.”
