Sebamed campaign tackles hair fall and hair loss confusion

Two-film digital campaign uses science-led storytelling to challenge a common haircare myth

MUMBAI: Not every strand tells the same story and Sebamed wants consumers to stop treating them as if they do. The skincare and haircare brand has launched a new digital campaign for its Sebamed Anti-Hairloss Shampoo, taking aim at one of the category’s most persistent misconceptions: that hair fall and hair loss are the same problem.

Built around the proposition ‘Hair Fall ≠ Hair Loss’, the campaign uses two digital films to challenge the widespread tendency to use the two terms interchangeably. The objective is to encourage consumers to identify the root cause of their hair concerns before choosing a treatment.

The first film uses an unsettling visual metaphor, showing people running a generic “hair fall” product across their scalp like an electric trimmer, with hair disappearing after every stroke. The narrative suggests that using the wrong solution for hair loss can be as damaging as removing the hair yourself, before introducing the science behind Sebamed’s anti-hair loss formulation.

The second film takes a more surreal route. A man is seen trying to repair hair loss from the top of an oversized strand, only to realise the issue lies beneath the scalp. The film reinforces the campaign’s central message that hair loss begins at the follicles and requires treatment at the root rather than on the surface.

The campaign is based on the insight that while hair fall is often linked to temporary breakage and external damage, hair loss originates beneath the scalp as hair follicles weaken over time. By highlighting the distinction, Sebamed aims to promote more informed haircare choices.

The films conclude with a science-led product demonstration, explaining how Sebamed Anti-Hairloss Shampoo works beneath the scalp using its NHE Formula with Caffeine and Ginkgo Biloba Extract, designed to improve scalp nourishment and help reduce hair loss from the roots.

The campaign has been conceptualised by Famous Innovations, while the films were produced by Hungry Films under the direction of Mahesh Gharat.

Sebamed plans to amplify the campaign across digital video, social media, contextual platforms and creator-led content, extending its reach through multiple digital touchpoints.

The latest campaign reflects a broader trend in the personal care industry, where brands are increasingly pairing scientific education with bold storytelling to challenge long-held category myths and stand out in an increasingly crowded haircare market.
