Reliance Consumer enters ice cream market with Bombay Creamery
New dairy ice cream brand starts at Rs 10 in Western India before a pan India rollout
MUMBAI: Reliance is bringing a cool new contender to the table. Reliance Consumer Products Limited (RCPL), the FMCG arm of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), has entered India’s ice cream market with Bombay Creamery, adding another category to its expanding consumer goods portfolio.
The new brand is being launched with a focus on real dairy cream, with RCPL positioning the range around its “Global Quality at Affordable Price” proposition. The company says the products are made with authentic dairy ingredients and are aimed at offering a consistent ice cream experience without compromising on affordability.
Bombay Creamery’s portfolio spans familiar formats including cones, cups, tubs, bars and sticks, with prices starting at just Rs 10.
The brand is initially available across Western India, with RCPL planning to expand it across the country in the coming months. The rollout will be backed by Reliance’s existing national distribution network and retail presence.
T Krishnakumar, Director, Reliance Consumer Products, said the company had built Bombay Creamery around the idea that dairy products should not rely on shortcuts. He described the launch as a long-term commitment to the ice cream category rather than simply an entry into the market.
The move gives RCPL another route into India’s expanding packaged food and beverage landscape, as the company uses its distribution infrastructure, retail scale and consumer insights to build brands across everyday consumption categories.
With Rs 10 as its entry price, a portfolio covering multiple formats and a Western India launch before a planned national rollout, Bombay Creamery’s next test will be whether Reliance can turn its distribution muscle into a sizeable slice of India’s ice cream market.
