Kausik K Misra joins Sony Pictures Networks India as head of non-fiction programming
After a career break of solo travels and Vipassana, the Zee veteran lands at Sony AATH
KOLKATA: Kausik K Misra is back at the crease, and this time he’s batting for Sony. After a 12-month break spent on solo travels, a Vipassana retreat and long-overdue family time, the television veteran has joined Sony Pictures Networks India as head of programming, non-fiction, at Sony AATH — swapping Mumbai for Kolkata in the process.
Misra spent nearly 15 years at Zee Entertainment, rising from management trainee to head of non-fiction content, where he ran an annual budget of Rs 140 crore and built flagship shows into multi-platform franchises. He left Zee in April 2025 for what he called a much-needed pause.
Announcing the move on LinkedIn, Misra admitted to a “healthy dose of butterflies in the stomach” alongside the excitement, calling it both a new challenge and a personal leap into an unfamiliar market. He credited Ambesh Tiwari with backing his return to television, saying the opportunity gave him the confidence to “swing freely, and aim for the boundary.”
Career breaks, Misra reflected, can be unsettling while you’re in them — but the goodwill built over years has a habit of returning as help when least expected. Twice in six months, in his case.
From burnout to boundary-scoring — Misra’s Kolkata innings starts now, and the non-fiction world will be watching every shot.
