Arindam Bhattacharya to launch Bengali OTT platform Matrix One in 2026

MUMBAI: Lights, camera, platform  engali storytelling is getting a new screen to call home. Filmmaker Arindam Bhattacharya is set to enter the streaming arena with the launch of Matrix One, a premium Bengali OTT platform slated to go live in the second half of 2026, as regional streaming competition continues to gather pace.

Backed by Bhattacharya’s production house Dreamliner Entertainment, the platform will focus on a curated slate of original web series, feature films, short films and documentaries, alongside travel, food, lifestyle and health programming. The strategy, however, is built around quality rather than scale, with the company opting for a selective content pipeline instead of a high-volume release model.

Matrix One will launch with Shibpur – The Prequel, Bhattacharya’s first web series and a prequel to his 2023 crime drama Shibpur. The debut slate will also include Durgapur Junction, starring Vikram Chatterjee and Swastika Mukherjee, the web series Dugga directed by Sayan Banerjee, and a web film by Atanu Ghosh.

In a move that extends beyond original programming, the platform will introduce a dedicated Classics section featuring digitally restored Bengali and Indian films. The initiative aims to preserve cinematic heritage while creating a digital archive of landmark titles for contemporary audiences.

Bhattacharya, whose filmography includes Antarleen, Flat No. 609, Antardhaan, Shibpur and Durgapur Junction, brings an unusual blend of corporate and creative experience to the venture. Before entering filmmaking in 2016, he spent nearly two decades in senior leadership positions at companies including RPG Spencer’s, GE and HP Agilent.

His 2023 film Shibpur was widely recognised for introducing a fresh take on the Bengali underworld genre and earned acclaim alongside several Filmfare and WBFJA honours across his body of work.

Speaking about the venture, Bhattacharya said Matrix One is designed to combine disciplined business practices with high-quality storytelling, creating a sustainable platform dedicated to premium Bengali content.

With a growing appetite for regional-language streaming and original programming, Matrix One enters an increasingly competitive market where platforms are looking beyond volume to differentiate themselves through distinctive storytelling and curated viewing experiences.
