OTT releases this week: Six titles across Zee5, Prime Video and more
Ghamasaan, The Revolutionaries and Mowgli lead a varied week of new streaming titles
MUMBAI: This week’s OTT slate is pulling out all the stops, from dacoits and revolutionaries to broken hearts and jungle escapades, there is something for almost every kind of binge. Six new titles are arriving across Zee5, Prime Video, Netflix and JioHotstar, spanning crime, romance, history, animation, science and adventure.
Ghamasaan, streaming on Zee5 from September 11, is directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia and takes viewers into the rugged world of Bundelkhand. The crime thriller pits dreaded dacoit leader Maharaj, played by Arshad Warsi, against STF officer Aditya, portrayed by Pratik Gandhi. What begins as a cat-and-mouse manhunt soon gets tangled in political corruption, power struggles and hidden interests, making the chase bigger than the two men at its centre.
On Netflix, Spanish thriller Stolen Heartbeats, also released on September 11, takes revenge down a darker road. The story follows a man hunting the organ-trafficking organisation he blames for his wife’s death. But his quest takes a sharp emotional turn when he becomes involved with the woman who received his wife’s heart without either initially knowing the connection between them.
Tamil romantic drama Vishwanath & Sons also began streaming on Netflix on September 11. The film stars Suriya, Mamitha Baiju, Radhika Sarathkumar and Raveena Tandon, and follows Sanjay Vishwanath, an accomplished pistol shooter whose life takes an unexpected turn when a much younger woman, Maddy, declares her love for him.
For younger viewers, JioHotstar brings back a familiar jungle face with Jungle Tales With Mowgli, which arrived on September 12. The Hindi animated children’s adventure places Mowgli at the centre of a new set of family-friendly stories, following his escapades and encounters in the jungle.
Netflix is also bringing back Mark Rober’s CrunLabs with Season 5 on September 12. The returning series combines large-scale engineering builds, science experiments and inventive challenges, with former NASA engineer and YouTube creator Mark Rober turning STEM into entertainment for viewers of all ages.
Rounding off the week is Prime Video’s The Revolutionaries, which premiered on September 11. Directed by Nikkhil Advani and inspired by Sanjeev Sanyal’s book Revolutionaries: The Other Story of How India Won Its Freedom, the period drama follows four young freedom fighters who reject peaceful and constitutional methods and embrace armed resistance against British rule. Set across Bengal and Punjab, the series traces their journeys as they become part of the wider struggle for India’s independence.
With a Bundelkhand manhunt, a Spanish revenge mission, a complicated romance, jungle adventures, science experiments and a chapter of India’s freedom struggle in the mix, this week’s OTT offerings certainly refuse to stick to one genre.
