MUMBAI: The Bigg Boss house is proving to be a viewing powerhouse, with audiences putting their lives on pause to watch the drama unfold. JioStar’s Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam editions have clocked 550 million watch hours in just five weeks, marking the biggest launch in the franchise’s history across the four southern markets.

For the first time, all four editions premiered on the same day, creating a shared entertainment moment across the region while retaining each language market’s distinct identity. Overall watch time grew 20 per cent year-on-year, giving the franchise a strong opening across television and digital platforms.

The engagement is extending well beyond the daily episodes. Six in 10 viewers are also tuning into the 24×7 live feed, pointing to an audience that wants more than a daily dose of house drama. The round-the-clock stream allows viewers to follow conversations, relationships and unexpected moments as they happen, turning the show into an always-on entertainment experience.

Connected TV consumption is another trend highlighted by JioStar’s entertainment leadership. Krishnan Kutty, head of entertainment business for the South cluster at JioStar, said the five-week milestone reflected growing time spent with the franchise across daily episodes and the live feed. He also pointed to the simultaneous launch and rising Connected TV consumption as signs of evolving audience behaviour.

The numbers are finding favour with advertisers, too. More than 75 brands have partnered with the four editions, accounting for over 120 sponsorships. More than half of these brands are first-time advertisers, while local advertisers contribute approximately 30 per cent of total advertising spends. The mix suggests the franchise is attracting both established national players and businesses looking to connect with regional audiences.

The advertiser line-up spans automobiles, consumer goods, food, personal care, finance, retail and home products. Brands on board include Maruti Suzuki India Limited, Asian Paints, Britannia Nutri Choice, Denver, Star Health Insurance, Haier, Amazon, Colgate, Head & Shoulders, Uber, Sprite, TTK Prestige, Vicks, JK Tyres, India Gate, Nivea Soft Gel, Purplle, Nilkamal Sleep, Hero Xoom, Kingfisher Packaged Drinking Water and Centuary Mattress. The wider roster also features regional and local names such as Anil Foods, Aroma Ghee, Ashwin Sweets, Darling Digital, IHP Iyengar, KT Special Tea, Ramesh Lungies, Regal Jewellers, Sparsh Masala, Sudarshan Silks and Sunpure.

The build-up began even before the main seasons went on air, with Bigg Boss Agnipariksha, the franchise’s first integrated digital pre-show spanning all four southern markets. The format appeared as Agnipariksha in Telugu, Agniparikshe in Kannada, Agnipareeksha in Malayalam and The Common Man in Tamil. It gave aspiring contestants a chance to compete for a place inside the Bigg Boss house, extending participation beyond the established contestants and building anticipation ahead of launch.

The four editions continue to air daily on their respective television channels: Bigg Boss Tamil on Star Vijay, Bigg Boss Telugu on Star Maa, Bigg Boss Kannada on Colors Kannada and Bigg Boss Malayalam on Asianet. Vijay Sethupathi, Nagarjuna, Kichha Sudeepa and Mohanlal host the Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam editions, respectively. Episodes and the 24×7 live feed are also available on JioHotstar.

With 550 million watch hours, a growing appetite for round-the-clock viewing and more than 120 sponsorships, Bigg Boss South is delivering a sizeable opening across screens and markets. The next test will be whether the early-season buzz can hold as the drama inside the house unfolds.
