MUMBAI: Once upon a scroll, the magic kingdom met the For You Page. In a sign of how storytelling is evolving, Disney is inviting creators to play with some of the world’s biggest entertainment franchises and giving their videos a place on Disney+.

The Walt Disney Company and TikTok have struck a content-sharing partnership that will allow TikTok creators to produce videos using Disney’s intellectual property, with selected content also finding its way onto Disney+, marking a significant convergence of the creator economy and mainstream streaming.

Under the agreement, creators will gain access to assets from hundreds of Disney films and television shows, spanning blockbuster franchises including Marvel, Pixar, Star Wars and FX. The selected videos will not only appear on TikTok but will also be showcased on Disney+’s “Verts” feed, the streaming platform’s vertical-video destination designed for mobile-first audiences.

The pilot programme will launch in the United States before expanding internationally. Financial terms of the partnership were not disclosed.

The deal marks a milestone for both companies. It is the first time TikTok videos will be distributed on another streaming platform, while also signalling a notable shift in Disney’s long-standing approach to protecting and controlling its intellectual property.

For decades, Disney’s storytelling revolved around professionally produced films and television series, with fan-created content largely flourishing on external platforms such as YouTube and social media. The new partnership effectively brings those fan conversations into Disney’s own ecosystem.

The move reflects a broader transformation in entertainment consumption. Increasingly, audiences discover films, series and franchises through TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts, rather than traditional advertising campaigns. Disney has already begun adapting to this trend through vertical-video experiences across ESPN and, more recently, through the launch of the Verts feed on Disney+.

The TikTok collaboration takes that strategy a step further by creating an official pathway between creator-generated content and premium streaming.

The partnership also highlights TikTok’s growing role as an entertainment discovery engine. According to company data, users shared an average of 6.5 million film- and television-related posts every day last year. Nearly half of surveyed users said they watched a film or television programme after discovering related content on the platform.

That shift has changed how studios approach marketing. Rather than relying solely on traditional promotional campaigns, media companies are increasingly turning to creators who can continuously generate franchise-related content and sustain fan engagement.

Disney Chief Marketing and Brand Officer Asad Ayaz said fan creativity increasingly extends Disney’s storytelling beyond conventional screens, while TikTok’s Global Head of Entertainment Dawn Yang noted that creators have become central to how audiences discover and connect with entertainment.

The agreement also reflects the intensifying battle for audience attention. Streaming platforms such as Disney+, Netflix, Peacock and Paramount+ are no longer competing only with one another, they are also vying with short-form video platforms that increasingly dominate consumers’ daily screen time.

Several streaming services have already experimented with vertical-video formats, including Netflix’s Clips and similar initiatives from Peacock and Paramount+. Disney’s latest partnership, however, goes further by combining the scale of social creators with the reach of a global streaming platform, signalling that the next chapter of entertainment may be written as much in short-form feeds as on the big screen.
