This weekend’s OTT releases bring courtroom drama, cricket and crime

MUMBAI: The couch is calling, and this weekend’s streaming slate is answering with a full house. Whether it’s a courtroom showdown, a last-ball sporting triumph, a murder mystery or a mafia turf war, OTT platforms are serving up a packed menu of fresh releases that should keep binge-watchers occupied well beyond Sunday night.

Leading this week’s line-up is Netflix, which drops multiple high-profile titles across genres. Fresh off its theatrical run, Peddi brings an emotional sporting story centred on an underdog cricketer determined to restore his village’s pride. Starring Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor, the sports drama began streaming on July 9.

Also arriving on Netflix is Ikka, marking Sunny Deol’s OTT debut. The courtroom thriller reunites him with Akshaye Khanna as a respected lawyer forced to defend a man he once believed was guilty, turning a legal battle into a deeply personal conflict. The film premiered on July 10.

Netflix also expands its international catalogue this week. French crime drama Nothing to Lose, released on July 8, follows a desperate mother who ventures into the criminal underworld to save her critically ill son. Meanwhile, Colombian dark comedy Salcedo, Leather & Boogaloo, also released on July 8, explores how one man’s seemingly perfect life spirals into chaos after becoming entangled in dangerous nightlife and hidden secrets.

Family audiences can turn to Little House on the Prairie, Netflix’s new adaptation of the beloved classic, which premiered on July 9. The series revisits the Ingalls family’s struggle to build a life on the American frontier while celebrating resilience and togetherness.

Over on JioHotstar, Pati Patni Aur Woh Do brings a light-hearted dose of comedy. Streaming from July 11, the film revolves around family relationships, misunderstandings and comic twists, making it an easy weekend entertainer.

Apple TV+ returns with the fifth season of Trying, as Nikki and Jason face fresh emotional challenges when the biological mother of their adopted children enters their lives. Starring Esther Smith, Rafe Spall and Charlotte Riley, the acclaimed comedy-drama returned on July 8.

Tamil cinema also enjoys a strong presence this week. Parimala & Co, streaming on Zee5 from July 10, combines murder, mystery and humour as an ordinary Chennai family finds itself caught in extraordinary circumstances following a local troublemaker’s death.

Meanwhile, SonyLiv premieres Balti, a Tamil sports thriller directed by Unni Sivalingam. Released on July 10, the film follows four champion kabaddi players whose friendship is pushed to breaking point when crime and gang rivalries enter the picture. Shane Nigam, Shanthanu Bhagyaraj and Preethi Asrani headline the cast.

Closing out the week’s major releases is Prime Video’s The Westies, which premieres on July 12. Set in New York’s Hell’s Kitchen during the early 1980s, the crime drama chronicles the rise of an Irish-American gang battling the city’s powerful Italian mafia. Featuring J.K. Simmons, Titus Welliver, Tom Brittney, Sarah Bolger and Allen Leech, the series promises an intense blend of organised crime, power struggles and survival.
