Warner Bros. Discovery brings Naked and Afraid to India with six survivalists and no safety net
The global adventure survival franchise makes its Asia Pacific debut with an Indian cast dropped into the Philippine wilderness. No comfort. No escape. No clothes.
MUMBAI: Six Indians. One jungle in the Philippines. Not a stitch of clothing between them. Warner Bros. Discovery has launched Naked and Afraid: Aadimanav, the India adaptation of its internationally acclaimed adventure survival franchise, premiering today at 11 PM on Discovery and streaming on discovery+. It is the first Asia Pacific edition of one of the world’s most recognised survival formats, and it does not ease anyone in gently.
The six-part series was shot deep in the wilderness of Palawan in the Philippines, where the cast were stripped of modern comforts and left to navigate unfamiliar terrain, find food and water, build shelter and contend with whatever the wild threw at them. The campaign line says it plainly: No Mercy. No Escape.
The survivalists are not amateurs. Tenzin Jigdrela is a mountaineer and expedition leader from Ladakh. Krushnaa Patil is one of India’s youngest Everest summiteers. Lahu Ughade is an Everest climber and animal rescuer. Debiprasad Kar is an athlete and endurance coach. Sudipta Mondal is a parkour instructor and holistic health practitioner. Nirit Datta is a wildlife rescuer and conservationist. Together they represent some of the most physically and mentally tested people in the country. The wilderness of Palawan will test them differently.
Sai Abishek, head of factual entertainment, lifestyle and kids, South Asia, at Warner Bros. Discovery, said the show marked a significant moment for the franchise. “What makes Naked and Afraid a global phenomenon is its scale and originality which continues to captivate audiences around the world,” he said, adding that Indian audiences would connect strongly with a format that has set the benchmark for adventure survival programming globally.
The series is inspired by the instincts, resilience and survival skills of the Aadimanav, the primal human, and follows its cast as they are forced back to the most fundamental human capabilities: resourcefulness, judgement and sheer mental resolve. Across six episodes, viewers will watch unexpected alliances form, difficult choices get made and the relentless determination required to simply keep going.
Warner Bros. Discovery, listed on NASDAQ as WBD, operates across more than 220 countries and territories in 50 languages, with a portfolio spanning Discovery Channel, discovery+, CNN, HBO, HBO Max, Animal Planet and dozens of other brands.
Six of India’s toughest have been dropped into one of the world’s most unforgiving environments with nothing but their wits. Whether that is enough is what the next six episodes will decide.
