Tejkarran Singh Bajaj exits Jio Studios after seven-and-a-half-year stint
Originals head signs off after helping build a multi-language content slate
MUMBAI: After helping shape the studio’s originals business for more than seven years, Tejkarran Singh Bajaj has announced his departure, marking the end of a significant chapter in India’s fast-evolving streaming and content landscape.
Bajaj, who most recently served as senior vice president and head of originals at Jio Studios, shared the news in a LinkedIn post, calling the company a “defining chapter” of his professional life. His exit comes after a 7.5-year stint during which he played a central role in building and scaling the studio’s original content ambitions across genres, languages and platforms.
Reflecting on his tenure, Bajaj thanked colleagues, partners and collaborators who contributed to the journey. He also expressed gratitude to Jyoti Deshpande for her support and leadership throughout his time at the company.
During his leadership of the originals division, Bajaj oversaw an extensive slate of more than 50 shows spanning multiple languages. The portfolio included titles such as Inspector Avinash, Doctors, Code M 2, Apharan 2, Bajao and Magic of Shiri. He also led development and rollout strategies for upcoming projects including Union, Paan Parda Zarda, Inspector Avinash Season 2, Waiting Hai and Clean-Up Crew.
Beyond content creation, Bajaj was responsible for shaping commercial and strategic partnerships with leading OTT platforms, aligning programming with audience demand and business objectives. He also managed content investment strategies, licensing deals and monetisation initiatives while building cross-functional teams across the organisation.
Before taking charge of originals at Jio Studios, Bajaj held senior leadership roles at ZEE5, where he served as head of original content during the streaming service’s formative years. There, he helped commission and launch more than 25 original productions, including Karenjit Kaur and Rangbaaz, while establishing the platform’s early content identity across six languages.
His career also spans senior creative roles at Maxus, where he led branded content initiatives for major brands, and earlier stints with production houses including Endemol India and Miditech. Bajaj began his television career at NDTV, where he was part of the team behind the launch of NDTV Metronation.
In his farewell note, Bajaj said he was leaving with “gratitude, pride, and a lot of respect” for the people and experiences that shaped his journey. While he has not yet disclosed his next move, his departure closes a notable chapter for Jio Studios and opens the door to a fresh act in a career that has consistently been at the forefront of India’s content business.
