NEW DELHI: A fresh chapter is loading at NDTV Digital. The news platform has appointed Vinay Sarawagi as its new chief content officer, tasking the seasoned media executive with steering content strategy and accelerating the company’s AI-driven digital ambitions.

Sarawagi brings more than two decades of experience spanning editorial leadership, digital transformation and media business strategy. Most recently, he served as co-founder and chief executive officer of The Media GCC, a specialised global capability centre that supports media and broadcast organisations in content strategy, technology transformation and revenue optimisation, with a particular focus on AI-led disruption.

Over the course of his career, Sarawagi has held senior roles across some of India’s most prominent media organisations, including Times Group, Network18, Business Standard, Reuters, DNA and India Today. His work has spanned editorial, audience and revenue functions, helping media brands navigate large-scale digital growth and changing consumer habits.

At NDTV Digital, Sarawagi will oversee content strategy across platforms, with a mandate to use artificial intelligence to enhance storytelling, deepen editorial capabilities and strengthen audience engagement. He will also work closely with teams to build scalable content systems designed for an increasingly digital-first news ecosystem.

Welcoming the appointment, NDTV chief executive officer and editor-in-chief Rahul Kanwal said Sarawagi’s blend of editorial expertise and strategic thinking would be valuable as the company expands its digital footprint.

“Vinay brings a combination of editorial understanding, digital experience and strategic clarity. As NDTV strengthens its digital presence, his leadership will help us build content that is credible, contemporary, and deeply relevant to our audiences across the world,” said Rahul Kanwal.

Echoing the sentiment, NDTV chief people officer Purva Misra highlighted Sarawagi’s collaborative approach and his focus on reimagining newsroom operations through AI.

“What stood out to us was Vinay’s collaborative approach and his focus on using AI to rethink the newsroom. He is someone you can sit down with and exchange ideas easily, and that matters as we build what’s next,” said Purva Misra.

For NDTV chief content officer Vinay Sarawagi, the move comes at a pivotal moment for journalism, as technology reshapes how news is created, distributed and consumed.

“NDTV has long stood for credibility and public trust. I am delighted to join NDTV Digital at a time when journalism is being reshaped by technology, audience behaviour, and new storytelling formats. I look forward to working with the team to build sharp, future-ready digital content,” said Vinay Sarawagi.

The appointment forms part of NDTV Digital’s broader effort to build a faster, more agile newsroom that combines the network’s legacy of trust with emerging technologies and evolving audience expectations. As AI increasingly influences the future of media, NDTV is betting that editorial credibility and technological innovation can go hand in hand.
