Vertigo TV and Balaji Studios team up to produce Hindi vertical microdramas

MUMBAI: India’s appetite for short-form content just got a serious backer. Vertigo TV, a digital platform specialising in vertical microdramas, has announced a strategic collaboration with Balaji Studios, a division of Balaji Telefilms, to produce a new slate of Hindi vertical microdramas for mobile-first audiences. It is one of the first large-scale initiatives in India dedicated to producing premium content in this format.

The partnership brings together Balaji Telefilms’ decades of storytelling muscle with Vertigo TV’s distribution infrastructure and focus on vertical-format content. Together, they plan to develop original microdramas across genres including romance, thriller and youth-oriented stories, all designed specifically for smartphone viewing.

Nitin Burman, chief revenue officer of Balaji Telefilms, made no attempt to downplay the ambition. “Microdramas are immersive, high-impact storytelling designed for how audiences consume content today — quick, engaging and emotionally immediate,” he said, adding that the collaboration would help craft Indian narratives that are “sharp in form yet rich in impact.”

The chief executive of Vertigo TV echoed the sentiment, describing the tie-up with Balaji Telefilms as “a significant step” in the platform’s journey, and emphasising the goal of creating content that is “fast-paced, engaging and designed specifically for today’s digital viewers.”

Vertigo TV’s platform currently aggregates Hindi originals alongside Chinese, Korean and English microdramas, spanning genres from romance and revenge sagas to thrillers and comedy. The addition of original Balaji-backed content is expected to sharpen its Indian offering considerably.
