White House launches 24/7 Trump TV amid clash with major news outlets
The streaming channel offers speeches, announcements and presidential highlights as media tensions escalate
WASHINGTON: The White House has launched TRUMP TV: The Essentials Station, a 24/7 digital streaming channel carrying presidential speeches, administration announcements, archival footage and other highlights from Donald Trump’s presidency.
The channel went live on 21 September on the White House’s official digital platforms, including its website and YouTube channel. The White House describes it as a destination for the administration’s “biggest moments”, with major remarks, videos and highlights streaming around the clock and updated in real time.
The launch gives the administration a dedicated outlet for distributing its own video coverage directly to audiences. The initial stream featured Trump’s Mount Rushmore address along with footage from his 2025 inauguration and other presidential events.
The channel arrives as the White House faces a major dispute with several news organisations over access to presidential events. The administration recently barred reporters from CNN, Politico and MS NOW from the White House, with Trump accusing the outlets of publishing what he called “fake news”. Reporters from the three organisations were subsequently denied entry and had their press access revoked.
The access dispute has also affected the White House television press pool, through which major networks share video coverage of presidential events.
Following CNN’s exclusion, the remaining major television networks suspended joint pool coverage of Trump in solidarity with the affected outlets. The move left a gap in the traditional shared television feed for presidential events.
Against that backdrop, Trump TV provides the White House with an alternative distribution channel that it controls directly, allowing official footage to reach viewers without relying on the traditional television pool.
CNN, MS NOW and Politico have also taken the dispute to federal court, alleging that the administration’s decision to revoke their access violated First Amendment press protections and Fifth Amendment due process rights.
The White House has defended its position by arguing that access to the White House is a privilege rather than a guaranteed right. The legal challenge is now set to test the limits of the administration’s authority to control media access to presidential activities.
With Trump TV now running alongside the continuing court battle, the White House and independent news organisations are taking sharply different approaches to how presidential information reaches the public. The channel’s launch therefore marks not just a new digital broadcast initiative, but another development in the ongoing fight over White House media access.
