Suryakumar Yadav joins Pro Govinda League as brand ambassador
SKY lends his star power to India’s fastest-growing human pyramid sport as it eyes a national stage
MUMBAI: Cricket and Dahi Handi have just found a common thread, and its name is suryakumar yadav. The Pro Govinda League, India’s first professional human pyramid league, has roped in the swashbuckling batter as brand ambassador for its fourth season, and the pairing makes rather more sense than it first appears.
Both disciplines, after all, run on the same currency: split-second timing, nerve under pressure and a group of people trusting each other completely when things get high stakes, literally, in PGL’s case, where pyramids soar five to eight levels in a matter of minutes. Yadav’s reputation for fearlessness and adaptability at the crease translates neatly onto a sport built on strength, balance and collective effort.
Purvesh Sarnaik, league president, called the tie-up a natural fit, one designed to push a sport rooted in Maharashtra’s cultural fabric towards a genuinely national audience. The numbers back the ambition. PGL’s viewership has rocketed from around 700,000 in its debut season to more than 7.5 million in its third, and last year the league bagged a Guinness World Records title for the tallest human pyramid, a staggering ten levels high. Add an official mascot, Bittu Boss, into the mix, and this looks less like a folk tradition finding sponsors and more like a sport being built, brick by brick, into a proper professional property.
Yadav himself did not hold back on enthusiasm, describing the skill and coordination on display as resonating instantly with what it takes to compete at the top of any sport. Season 4 runs from 25 to 27 August 2026 at The Dome, SVP Stadium, Worli, and with 16 teams, over 3,200 registered players and a cricketing superstar now fronting the campaign, PGL’s push beyond Maharashtra suddenly looks a great deal more credible.
