Sony MAX brings Rs 100 crore Gujarati hit Laalo to television screens
Blockbuster devotional drama expands beyond theatres with Hindi TV debut
MUMBAI: After roaring past the Rs 100 crore mark at the global box office, Laalo – Krishna Sada Sahaayate is heading from cinema halls to television screens, with its premiere set for 17 May at 1 PM on Sony MAX
The Gujarati blockbuster, which emerged as one of the biggest regional success stories in recent years, will now reach a wider national audience through its Hindi television debut, while also being available in Gujarati to retain its local flavour.
Celebrated for its emotional storytelling and devotional themes, the film struck a chord with audiences during its theatrical run and quickly grew into a cultural talking point across communities. Its success added fresh momentum to Gujarati cinema, proving that rooted stories with strong emotional pull can travel far beyond regional boundaries.
The film follows Lalji Dhansukh Parmar, a humble rickshaw driver whose life takes a dramatic turn when he becomes trapped inside a farmhouse and is forced to confront his past. Guided by Lord Krishna, Lalji embarks on a journey of redemption, healing and self-discovery.
Karan Joshi leads the cast as Lalji, alongside Reeva Rachh, Mishty Kadecha and Shruhad Goswami, who essays the role of Lord Krishna. The film is directed by Ankit Sakhiya.
Speaking about the television premiere, Sony Pictures Networks India
chief content officer – movies cluster Ajay Bhalwankar said the film had “redefined the scale of Gujarati cinema” and reflected the power of authentic storytelling that resonates across audiences and geographies.
He added that the premiere aligns with Sony MAX’s effort to bring emotionally rich blockbuster stories to viewers across India.
Meanwhile, Shruhad Goswami said portraying Lord Krishna in the film was “a journey into timeless devotion and human resilience”, adding that the television premiere would help the story and its message of hope reach even more homes.
Having previously aired films such as Kantara and Mahavatar Narsimha, Sony MAX is continuing its push into spiritually themed cinema that blends scale with sentiment. With Laalo now ready for its small-screen chapter, the channel is betting that faith, family and a touch of Krishna’s guidance can once again work their magic.
