Sony LIV’s Real Kashmir Football Club nominated for International Emmy

MUMBAI: Sony LIV’s Real Kashmir Football Club has been nominated for an International Emmy Award in the Drama Series category, taking a story rooted in Kashmir to the global television stage.

Inspired by the true story of Kashmir’s first professional football club, the series follows two men who set out to build a professional football team in the Valley. Starring Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub and Manav Kaul, the drama explores their shared ambition and the wider impact of football on the community around them.

The series centres on themes of determination, resilience and the possibilities that sport can create for people and communities.

Real Kashmir Football Club show-runner and co-director Mahesh Mathai said the nomination was recognition for a story that had taken a long journey from its origins in Kashmir to an international audience.

“When you come across a great story, don’t let it pass you by. Grab a hold of, nurture it, love it, and push it through that long tunnel. It will find the light. We are honoured that this special series has found global recognition through an Emmy nomination,” said Real Kashmir Football Club show-runner and co-director Mahesh Mathai.

Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub said the nomination was particularly meaningful for a series built around a story of resilience and hard work.

“It is always special to see our labour of love reach people and receive recognition. This was an important and relevant story for us to tell, a story of resilience, courage and hard work. We dedicate this recognition to the people of Kashmir, their resilience and the struggles they have endured. I hope this nomination helps the story travel further and reach a wider audience,” said Ayyub.

Produced by Jaya Entertainment and Oshun Entertainment, the series features an ensemble cast including Abhishant Rana, Muazzam Bhat, Priya Chauhan, Anmol Thakeriadhillon, Afnan Fazli and Shaheem Bhat.

Mathai and Rajesh Mapuskar have directed the series, while the writing team comprises Simaab Hashmi, Dhruv Narang, Mahesh Mathai, Danish Renzu and Umang Vyas.

The International Emmy nomination adds to the show’s journey from a story about football in Kashmir to a series reaching audiences beyond the Valley.

Real Kashmir Football Club is currently streaming on Sony LIV.
