India and Pakistan set for Women’s Asia Cup clash on September 5
India eye a record fourth title after opening with a 94-run win over Thailand
MUMBAI: The rivalry is ready to bowl over the continent once again. India and Pakistan are set to face off in one of the most anticipated fixtures of the ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2026 in Dubai on September 5, with more than just two points riding on the result.
India have started their campaign in commanding fashion, beating Thailand by 94 runs, while Pakistan opened with a 35-run victory over the same opponents. India were due to face Hong Kong on September 3 before the high-voltage clash with Pakistan.
India, the most successful team in Women’s Asia Cup history with three titles, will be chasing a record fourth championship. A strong showing against Pakistan would also strengthen their push for continental silverware.
For India, much of the spotlight will fall on Smriti Mandhana, whose ability to provide explosive starts at the top could set the tone for the innings. Her experience in high-pressure matches makes her one of the key players to watch.
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur brings another layer of big-match experience. Whether anchoring the innings or shifting gears when required, her role could prove crucial in a contest where momentum can change quickly.
There is also an opportunity for Pratika Rawal, who has stepped in as a replacement for the injured Jemimah Rodrigues. The emerging batter’s composed approach and ability to build an innings under pressure could be tested in one of the biggest fixtures of the tournament.
Then there is Deepti Sharma, who has already made history at this Asia Cup. Against Thailand, her figures of 3/0 made her the leading wicket-taker in Women’s T20I cricket. She has also recently completed 150 T20I appearances, adding considerable experience to India’s all-round options.
