TRAI extends QoS consultation deadline to September 2
Telecom industry gets extra time to submit feedback on proposed service-quality rules
NEW DELHI:The telecom regulator is giving the industry more time to get its QoS comments in. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has extended the deadlines for stakeholders to submit comments and counter-comments on proposed amendments to its telecom and broadband quality of service regulations.
TRAI has extended the deadline for submitting comments to September 2, 2026, from the earlier August 26 deadline. The deadline for counter-comments has been pushed to September 15, from September 7.
The extension follows requests from industry associations and other stakeholders, according to TRAI’s Information Note to the Press issued on August 25.
Consultation paper issued earlier this month
TRAI had released a consultation paper on August 5 proposing amendments to the Standards of Quality of Service of Access (Wireline and Wireless) and Broadband (Wireline and Wireless) Service Regulations, 2024.
The consultation seeks stakeholder views on draft changes to the existing quality of service framework covering telecom and broadband services.
The 2024 regulations provide standards for assessing the quality of access and broadband services across wireline and wireless networks. They were notified by TRAI on August 2, 2024.
The regulations came into effect on October 1, 2024.
With the latest extension, telecom operators, industry associations and other stakeholders now have an additional week to examine the proposed amendments and send their comments.
Stakeholders will subsequently have until September 15 to respond to comments submitted by other participants through counter-comments.
TRAI has asked stakeholders to submit their comments and counter-comments electronically to its QoS division.

The extension gives the industry more breathing room before the regulator moves ahead with the next stage of its proposed changes to the telecom quality of service framework.
