NEW YORK: Bill Bolster, the former chairman and chief executive of financial news channel CNBC, is retiring, NBC said on 5 November.

Bolster, 59, was the co-head of CNBC International, the parent of CNBC Europe and CNBC Asia. NBC said it has no immediate plans to fill the post.

Bolster was the head of CNBC from 1996 to 2001, turning the channel into a significant revenue generator for NBC and one of General Electric Corp.’s most profitable media assets, NBC said.

Before that, he was president and general manager of WNBC, NBC’s New York City station.
