Ryan Reynolds confirms another Deadpool film is in the works
Actor hints at fresh comic storylines after Deadpool & Wolverine’s record run
MUMBAI: Deadpool may crack jokes about retirement, but the Merc with a Mouth clearly isn’t hanging up the suit just yet. Ryan Reynolds has confirmed that another Deadpool film is on the way, signalling the return of Marvel’s wisecracking antihero after the record-breaking success of Deadpool & Wolverine.
Speaking during an appearance at Fanatics Fest 2026, Reynolds revealed that fresh ideas are already taking shape, drawing inspiration from comic book storylines that have yet to make it to the big screen.
“There’s eventually… another Deadpool film. It’s going to be great,” Reynolds said, while also praising comic creators Fabian Nicieza, who co-created Deadpool, and writer Gerry Duggan for storylines he believes deserve a cinematic outing.
The actor-producer, however, stopped short of revealing whether the next project would be a standalone Deadpool film or an ensemble feature in which the foul-mouthed antihero plays a supporting role.
The comments mark a shift from Reynolds’ earlier stance. In 2024, he had indicated that another solo Deadpool outing was unlikely, arguing that the character works best when pushed to his limits and warning that repeating the same formula risked becoming “iterative and redundant”. At the time, he had also explored ideas involving X-Men characters rather than another conventional sequel.
The franchise received a major boost with Deadpool & Wolverine, which reunited Reynolds with Hugh Jackman and became the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time, earning more than $1.3 billion at the global box office.
That success built on the popularity of Deadpool (2016) and Deadpool 2 (2019), both of which emerged as major commercial hits and helped establish the franchise as one of Marvel’s most successful standalone properties.
While Reynolds has kept key plot details firmly under wraps, his latest comments suggest the next chapter could delve deeper into the comic books while potentially expanding the franchise’s place within Marvel’s broader cinematic universe.
For fans, the message is simple: Deadpool’s next punchline is no longer a question of if, but when.
