Voltas posts 51 per cent profit growth as AC sales hit 1 million
RAC volumes jump 45 per cent as brand investment and wider distribution drive Q1
MUMBAI: Voltas has turned up the heat on its rivals. The Tata Group company reported a 51 per cent year-on-year rise in consolidated profit after tax to Rs 213 crore for the quarter ended 30 June 2026, helped by a surge in room air conditioner sales, stronger distribution and sustained brand investments.
Consolidated total income rose 18.5 per cent to Rs 4,765 crore in Q1 FY27, compared with Rs 4,021 crore a year earlier, while profit before tax increased to Rs 285 crore from Rs 203 crore.
The Unitary Cooling Products segment, which includes the RAC business, was the biggest contributor to the quarter’s performance. Revenue from the segment grew 32.3 per cent to Rs 3,794 crore, while segment profit almost doubled to Rs 202 crore from Rs 104 crore.
The standout figure was Voltas’ ability to move 1 million room air conditioners in just 81 days. RAC volumes grew 45 per cent year on year, significantly ahead of the broader industry and key competitors. The company reported a 17.3 per cent secondary market share in RACs for FY27 up to June 2026, extending its lead over the nearest competitor to 4 percentage points.
That momentum has been backed by a distribution network of more than 30,000 touch points, with Voltas pushing deeper into Tier II and Tier III markets. Stronger dealer engagement, improved availability and high utilisation at its Chennai and Pantnagar manufacturing facilities helped the company meet strong summer demand.
Brand building has also become a central part of the cooling strategy. Voltas said investments in marketing, product innovation, channel expansion, manufacturing capacity and supply-chain agility helped support market-share gains. Its refreshed RAC portfolio includes the AI-powered Vertis Split AC series, while its ‘True 1.5 TR Cooling Capacity’ campaign highlighted the 5,000W cooling capacity of its 1.5 TR air conditioners.
The company said margins improved significantly year on year despite commodity inflation and currency depreciation, supported by price increases and cost optimisation.
Voltas is also attempting to make its consumer appliances business less dependent on the summer AC rush. Its Voltbek home appliances business recorded its highest-ever quarterly sales in both value and volume, with a YTD market share of 9.4 per cent in washing machines and 7.4 per cent in refrigerators.
The performance was supported by refreshed premium Frost-Free Refrigerators and Fully Automatic Washing Machines, alongside a wider retail footprint, deeper channel penetration and stronger in-store visibility. Voltas is using premiumisation, product segmentation, localisation and sourcing efficiencies to build Voltbek further.
The broader strategy is to position Voltas as a more comprehensive cooling and home appliances player rather than a brand primarily associated with air conditioners. Managing Director Mukundan Menon C P said Voltbek’s performance was helping the company move towards becoming a full-stack consumer appliances organisation.
“Achieving the landmark milestone of selling 1 million Room Air Conditioners in just 81 days is a clear validation of the trust consumers place in the Voltas brand reinforcing its undisputed leadership in the cooling products market,” Menon said.
The company’s projects business, however, had a tougher quarter. Revenue from Electro-Mechanical Projects and Services declined to Rs 672 crore from Rs 922 crore, while segment profit fell to Rs 38 crore from Rs 49 crore. While domestic projects maintained strong order momentum, international projects continued to face delays in new order bookings following the impact of the Middle East conflict.
The segment nevertheless had a carry-forward order book of more than Rs 6,345 crore as of 30 June, providing revenue visibility across domestic and international projects. Meanwhile, Engineering Products and Services revenue increased to Rs 159 crore from Rs 135 crore, with segment profit rising to Rs 41 crore from Rs 40 crore.
For Voltas, the June quarter therefore delivered more than a summer spike. With RAC volumes accelerating, Voltbek gaining ground and the company pushing its brands deeper into smaller markets, the cooling major is looking to turn seasonal heat into year-round consumer momentum.
