The Bear House crosses 500 retail touchpoints, eyes Rs 1,000 crore growth runway
D2C menswear brand expands beyond digital with 25 exclusive stores and wider retail reach
MUMBAI: The Bear has found its footprint. The Bear House has become India’s first direct-to-consumer menswear brand to cross 500 points of sale, marking a significant shift from its online-first roots to a rapidly expanding omnichannel retail presence.
The milestone includes 25 exclusive brand outlets, comprising 23 stores across India and two stores in the UAE in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, alongside a growing network of large-format retail and multi-brand outlets that together take the brand’s retail presence beyond the 500 mark.
The company plans to open 30 additional stores during the current financial year as it accelerates its offline expansion strategy.
The retail milestone caps a sharp growth journey for the brand, which began as a Rs 1.5 crore business in 2017 and has grown into an estimated Rs 270 crore company. Backed by a recent Series A funding round of around Rs 60 crore, The Bear House has also outlined plans to scale to Rs 1,000 crore in revenue over the coming years.
The Bear House, co-founder, Harsh Somaiya, said, “What started as a Rs 1.5 crore business in 2017 has grown into an estimated Rs 270 crore brand today, and this 500-point-of-sale milestone reflects just how far our retail ambitions have come in a very short time. We built our entire physical retail presence from near zero in just the last couple of years, and we’re not slowing down.”
While offline retail has become a key growth engine, digital commerce continues to play a central role. The Bear House sells through more than 10 online marketplaces, including Myntra, Amazon, Ajio, Flipkart, Nykaa and Tata CLiQ. The company said it was recognised as India’s No. 1 D2C brand by India Retailers in 2024, ranks first in Myntra’s men’s workwear shirts category and is part of Myntra’s Rising Star Programme.
As the brand has expanded, its average order value has also increased. Online purchases have risen from around Rs 750 to nearly Rs 1,700, while the average in-store purchase now stands at approximately Rs 5,000, reflecting its move towards a more premium positioning.
The Bear House currently offers products across 18 categories, extending beyond apparel into newer segments such as sneakers and perfumes. Its portfolio includes shirts, polos, chinos, denim and outerwear designed for urban men aged 18 to 38, including working professionals, entrepreneurs and college students.
Having established a strong digital following, The Bear House is now betting that a wider physical retail network, coupled with premium product expansion, will help sustain its next phase of growth as competition intensifies in India’s fast-growing menswear market.
