Swiggy resolves FSSAI licence issue for Toing, says no food safety concerns involved
Company receives modified FSSAI licence after addressing regulatory observations on platform
MUMBAI: A regulatory speed bump, not a roadblock. Swiggy has clarified that an order issued by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India concerning its food ordering and delivery platform, Toing, stemmed from licence-related observations and did not involve any food safety issues.
In a stock exchange filing, the company said it had received a prohibition order from FSSAI’s designated officer in Karnataka on July 6. The order sought an explanation regarding the Toing platform and the company’s FSSAI licence particulars.
Swiggy said the matter related solely to the updating of licence details for the platform. The company subsequently addressed the regulator’s observations and received a modified FSSAI licence on July 9.
“The matter related to certain observations by FSSAI regarding updation of licence particulars and involved no food safety concerns,” the company said in its filing.
According to the disclosure, the regulator’s observations have now been resolved through the issuance of the revised licence.
Swiggy also said the order has had no material financial or operational impact on its business. The company noted that no monetary penalty has been imposed under the order.
The disclosure was made under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015. Swiggy said there was a delay in reporting the development because it was evaluating the appropriate course of action after receiving the order.
With the modified licence now in place, the company said the regulatory issue concerning Toing has been addressed, allowing the platform to continue operating without any reported impact on its overall business.
