Shawan Sen rejoins CNN-News18 as executive editor after exiting Republic TV
Senior journalist returns to network to lead investigations, enterprise reporting and security coverage
Mumbai: Shawan Sen is coming full circle. After spending nearly a decade at Republic TV, the senior journalist has returned to familiar ground, rejoining CNN-News18 in a leadership role focused on investigative and enterprise journalism.
Shawan Sen has stepped down from Republic TV and joined CNN-News18 as executive editor, enterprise and special investigations.
Based in Noida, Sen will lead the channel’s enterprise journalism, special investigations and national security coverage. His responsibilities will also include anchoring afternoon and prime-time news programmes, along with hosting a dedicated weekend show on defence and internal security, which is currently under development.
The appointment marks a return to the Network18 newsroom for Sen, who previously worked at CNN-IBN as senior correspondent between September 2012 and July 2016. During that stint, he covered crime, defence and intelligence agencies.
Sen spent more than nine years at Republic TV, joining the broadcaster in April 2017 following a brief tenure at Times Network. At Republic TV, he rose to the position of deputy executive editor, overseeing special projects and contributing to the network’s coverage of several major national stories.
Before moving into television news, Sen began his journalism career as a civic reporter with The Times of India. He also worked at The Indian Express before joining CNN-IBN, building expertise in reporting on crime, defence and intelligence.
In 2016, he moved to Times Network as special correspondent covering defence and intelligence agencies before joining Republic TV the following year.
An alumnus of Asian College of Journalism, where he completed a postgraduate diploma in television journalism, Sen also holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from St. Xavier’s College.
With Sen returning to CNN-News18 in a senior editorial role, the network is strengthening its focus on investigative reporting and national security coverage as competition intensifies in India’s television news landscape.
