Rustom Dastoor joins PIMCO as global CMO after 12 years at Mastercard
The veteran marketer moves into asset management after leading Mastercard’s Americas marketing
NEW DELHI: Marketing leadership gets a fresh charge at PIMCO, with veteran marketer Rustom Dastoor joining the investment management firm as its global chief marketing officer.
Dastoor announced the move on LinkedIn, saying he was excited to join PIMCO and work with teams across the world as the company looks to build on its investment heritage and shape its next phase of growth.
The appointment brings a marketer with more than two decades of experience across financial services, advertising and global brand building into PIMCO’s senior leadership team.
Dastoor joins PIMCO after more than 12 years at Mastercard, where he held a succession of senior marketing and communications roles across major markets.
Most recently, he served as executive vice president and head of marketing and communications for the Americas at Mastercard, a position he took up in January 2022. In the role, he oversaw the company’s marketing and communications agenda across one of its most strategically important regions.
His remit covered brand, product, services and go-to-market strategy, with marketing positioned as a commercial growth lever across customer acquisition, retention and business development. He also worked on enterprise reputation and the company’s engagement with customers, consumers, regulators and the media.
Before moving into the Americas role, Dastoor spent four years as senior vice president and head of marketing and communications for Asia Pacific at Mastercard. Based in Singapore, he worked across a diverse set of high-growth markets, balancing global strategy with local market execution.
During that stint, his work included expanding addressable markets, creating new usage occasions, supporting digital and cross-border adoption, and developing a data and AI-led marketing operating model. Campaign Asia also recognised him among Asia-Pacific’s 50 most influential and purposeful marketers in 2020 and 2021.
Dastoor’s Mastercard journey began in global B2B marketing. Between 2016 and 2017, he was senior vice president for global B2B marketing, working closely with product and sales teams on customer acquisition, pipeline development and partner expansion.
Earlier, as vice president of global marketing strategy and operations, he served as chief of staff to Mastercard’s global CMO and helped bring greater structure to marketing planning, measurement, governance and investment decisions.
The move to PIMCO also marks a return to the broader financial services ecosystem for Dastoor, whose agency career included work with major financial brands. At Ogilvy, he worked as account director in the US and Europe, including on assignments involving BlackRock and iShares.
Before Ogilvy, Dastoor spent more than seven years at DDB, where he worked as an account director on global consumer, healthcare and financial services accounts.
Alongside his new PIMCO role, Dastoor has also been serving as a member of the board of advisors at Virtuosi League since June 2026.
For PIMCO, the appointment comes at a time when financial services brands are increasingly looking beyond traditional corporate communications towards sharper consumer engagement, digital storytelling and differentiated brand positioning. Dastoor’s mix of agency, payments and global financial marketing experience gives him a broad canvas to work with.
With the move, Dastoor now takes his marketing playbook from payments to asset management, bringing a long track record of linking brand strategy with business growth to PIMCO’s global marketing function.
