R for Rabbit launches 10 product BioMimic kids’ care range

New range uses biomimicry across skincare, bath, oral care and grooming products

MUMBAI: Nature has always known a thing or two about taking care, and R for Rabbit is taking notes. The baby and kids’ products brand has launched BioMimic, a 10-product care range that uses biomimicry studying natural biological mechanisms and translating them into everyday products for children.

The range spans skincare, bath, oral care and grooming, bringing together an Aqua Cream, Shampoo, Body Lotion, Bathing Bar, Head-to-Toe Wash, Face Cream, Diaper Rash Cream, Powder, Toothpaste and Chest Rub.

Rather than starting with a product and adding a benefit, BioMimic works backwards: understand how a child’s skin and hair naturally function, then use those mechanisms as a blueprint for formulation.

The idea plays out differently across the range. The Aqua Cream takes inspiration from aquaporins, which help transport water within the skin, while the Shampoo draws from sebum and uses ingredients including ceramides and pro-vitamin B5 to support the hair and scalp.

The Body Lotion takes cues from vernix caseosa, the natural protective layer associated with a baby’s skin before birth. The Head-to-Toe Wash looks to amniotic fluid, while the Bathing Bar draws inspiration from the lotus effect.

The same approach extends to the rest of the line. The Diaper Rash Cream takes inspiration from the protective barrier associated with aloe vera, while the Powder draws on the absorbency of plant starches. The Toothpaste looks to the cleaning and protective functions of saliva, and the Chest Rub draws inspiration from the soothing sensation associated with natural hot springs.

Alongside the biomimicry pitch, R for Rabbit is putting emphasis on testing and transparency. The company said the products are paraben-free, sulphate-free and pH-balanced, and have undergone multiple layers of testing.

The range has been clinically and dermatologically tested, with additional testing by paediatricians and ophthalmologists. The toothpaste has also received dentist approval, according to the company.

R for Rabbit said laboratory test results for the range have been made available on its website, allowing parents to access the testing information behind the products.

“With BioMimic, we wanted to introduce a new way of thinking about kids’ care,” said Kunal Popat, Founder and CEO, R for Rabbit. He said the brand began by studying how children’s skin and hair function naturally before translating those mechanisms into product innovation.

Kinjal Popat, Co-Founder and COO, R for Rabbit, said the range was built around the idea of “understand the child first, and then create the product”, while reiterating the company’s focus on testing across different disciplines.

Founded in 2014, R for Rabbit has expanded from baby essentials into products including strollers, car seats, high chairs and diapers. The company says its products are used by more than 5 million parents across India.

With BioMimic, the brand is now extending that portfolio into everyday personal care, betting that sometimes the best product blueprint may be one that nature has already written.
