Finance chief quits after nearly five years to pursue entrepreneurial ambitions
BENGALURU: Pocket FM chief financial officer Anurag Sharma has stepped down after nearly five years with the company to pursue an entrepreneurial venture of his own.
Sharma, who was elevated to the CFO role in 2023 after serving as vice president of finance, played a key role during one of the company’s most aggressive growth phases. During his tenure, he led Pocket FM’s Series D fundraising round, helping the company secure $103 million in capital while also supporting its expansion into international markets, including the US.
A company spokesperson said, “Anurag Sharma has decided to move on from Pocket FM. He has been an important part of the company’s journey and has made meaningful contributions over the years. We thank him for his partnership and leadership during his time here, and wish him the very best as he explores entrepreneurial opportunities ahead.”
Before joining Pocket FM, Sharma worked with Ninjacart as head of finance. He also held roles at B.K. Birla Group and Ernst & Young, building experience across finance, operations and strategic planning.
Founded in 2018 by Rohan Nayak, Dana Ram Meghwal, Prateek Dixit and Nishanth Srinivasagowda, Pocket FM has emerged as one of India’s best-known audio entertainment platforms, offering audio series, stories and spoken-word content across genres.
The company has raised around $197 million across five funding rounds from investors including Lightspeed and Tencent.
According to data from Tracxn, Pocket FM reported revenue of Rs 585.2 crore in FY25, while losses widened sharply to around Rs 1,273 crore as the platform continued investing heavily in growth and global expansion.
Sharma’s departure comes at a time when digital content platforms are balancing rapid scale with profitability pressures, making the finance chair one of the hottest seats in the streaming business.
