Nissan TEKTON enters India Book of Records with 60-SUV Himalayan convoy
Five-day drive to Leh showcases premium SUV’s capability across challenging mountain terrain
Gurugram: Nissan has driven its latest SUV into the record books. Nissan Motor India announced that its new Nissan TEKTON has earned an India Book of Records title after a convoy of 60 identical SUVs completed a five-day expedition to Leh.
The achievement sets the record for the largest convoy of a single-model four-wheeler to reach Leh, coinciding with the company’s celebrations of 75 years of Nissan’s SUV heritage.
The convoy covered more than 700 km, travelling from Chandigarh through Manali and Zangla, crossing Shinku La Pass at an altitude of 16,703 feet before reaching Leh at 11,480 feet. The route exposed the vehicles to changing weather, high-altitude conditions and challenging mountain roads, providing what the company described as a real-world test of the SUV’s performance and durability.
The expedition was undertaken by media representatives and automotive industry experts, who drove all 60 vehicles throughout the journey.
Commenting on the milestone, Nissan Motor India managing director Saurabh Vatsa said the record celebrates both Nissan’s 75-year SUV legacy and the engineering capabilities of the TEKTON. He added that completing the demanding Himalayan drive demonstrated the vehicle’s durability and reinforced the company’s confidence in its ability to perform across India’s varied driving conditions.
Inspired by Nissan’s iconic Patrol SUV, the TEKTON features Japanese design, advanced safety technologies, Google built-in with access to more than 200 apps through Google Play, and a fully turbocharged engine line-up.
The SUV is manufactured at Nissan’s Chennai plant under its “One Car, One World” strategy and is built for both the domestic market and export destinations, including the Middle East and Africa.
The Nissan TEKTON is currently available at introductory ex-showroom prices starting at Rs 10.49 lakh for the Turbo T160 range and Rs 14.99 lakh for the Turbo T280 range. Bookings are open across Nissan dealerships and digital channels, while customer deliveries began on 20 July.
For Nissan, the record is more than a convoy of SUVs climbing mountains. It is a chance to demonstrate that the TEKTON is built to handle the toughest roads India has to offer, one switchback at a time.
