L&T Finance plans 26 new gold-loan locations in West Bengal
Lender targets deeper presence in Rs 47,000-crore state gold-loan market
KOLKATA: L&T Finance is looking to strike gold in West Bengal. L&T Finance plans to add 26 new locations in the state by March 2027 as it seeks to expand its presence in the growing gold-loan market, PTI reported.
The lender currently operates 28 locations in West Bengal, including four in Kolkata. Of the 26 new outlets planned, four are expected to be in Kolkata, according to Raju Dodti, whole-time director and chief operating officer, L&T Finance.
The expansion comes less than two years after the company entered the state’s gold-loan market. L&T Finance had no gold-loan presence in West Bengal a year ago, but its portfolio in the state has since grown to around Rs 165 crore.
The lender is also rolling out new campaigns to promote its gold-loan offerings as it looks to build its customer base in the state.
According to CRIF data cited in the report, West Bengal’s gold-loan market is estimated at around Rs 47,000 crore. L&T Finance currently has a 2.2 per cent share of the market, leaving considerable room for expansion.
The average gold-loan ticket size at L&T Finance is around Rs 2.6 lakh per customer, highlighting the lender’s focus on secured credit backed by household gold.
At the national level, L&T Finance’s gold-loan book stood at Rs 3,829 crore in the first quarter of FY27. The company acquired and integrated the gold-loan business of Paul Merchants Finance in June 2025 as part of its push to scale the segment.
With 26 more locations planned in West Bengal, L&T Finance is betting that a wider physical footprint can help it capture a larger slice of a sizeable regional gold-credit market.
