MUMBAI: Handle with care, because this one comes with a little extra love. Instamart has given its delivery bags a festive makeover for Raksha Bandhan, turning an everyday packaging detail into a Rakhi for its delivery partners.

The quick-commerce platform has designed special Raksha Bandhan delivery bags with a tear-off section built into the paper handle. Customers can remove the section and tie it around their delivery partner’s wrist, transforming what would normally be discarded after a delivery into a small festive keepsake.

The idea is simple, but it taps into a familiar relationship that has quietly become part of everyday urban life. Delivery partners are often the people who turn up with everything from last-minute birthday essentials and forgotten groceries to medicines and late-night cravings.

The specially designed handle gives customers an opportunity to acknowledge that everyday connection during Raksha Bandhan. Instead of a conventional Rakhi bought separately, the festive gesture arrives with the order itself.

The move has also caught the attention of social media users, with customers sharing their experiences after receiving the bags.

One user posted about discovering that the handle could be removed and used as a Rakhi, calling the idea “sooo cute” and saying that tying it around the delivery partner’s wrist brought a smile to his face.

Another user praised the concept as a thoughtful way of recognising delivery partners, noting that Raksha Bandhan need not be limited to brothers within the family. The post described the delivery partners as people who “show up for us every single day”.

The reactions underline how delivery partners have become increasingly familiar figures in consumers’ daily routines. For frequent quick-commerce users, the person arriving at the doorstep can often be a recognisable face, making the interaction feel less like a transaction and more like a recurring part of everyday life.

For Instamart, the initiative also gives a familiar piece of packaging a second purpose. The handle, which would ordinarily have little life beyond the delivery, becomes a physical reminder of the people behind the convenience.

The campaign comes as brands increasingly look for ways to make festive marketing feel more participatory rather than simply promotional. Here, the customer is not just receiving a festive message but becomes part of the gesture by tying the Rakhi themselves.

The response online suggests that the idea has struck a chord precisely because it is uncomplicated. There is no elaborate gift or grand celebration, just a delivery bag that carries a little more meaning than usual.

This Raksha Bandhan, Instamart’s bag may have delivered more than an order. It has turned a familiar doorstep exchange into a small celebration of the delivery bhaiya who keeps showing up when needed most.
