Hyundai BAYON to launch in India on 26 October with generative AI features
The Intelligent Utility Vehicle packs a Perplexity-powered AI assistant, dual 12.3-inch displays, over-the-air updates and a 115 PS petrol engine
MUMBAI: Your next road trip could come with an AI travel planner in the passenger seat. Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) is bringing the BAYON to India on 26 October 2026, positioning the vehicle as an Intelligent Utility Vehicle with generative AI, connected-car technology and a digital cockpit designed to make everyday driving smarter.
Built around the philosophy ‘Intelligence That Moves’, the BAYON combines a generative AI voice assistant, an NVIDIA-accelerated Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC), over-the-air software updates and more than 70 Hyundai Bluelink connected features. Bookings are open online through Hyundai’s official website and at authorised dealerships for Rs 11,000. Deliveries are scheduled to begin during the festive season, with detailed timelines to be communicated at launch.
An AI assistant that goes beyond basic commands
The BAYON introduces HMIL’s first generative AI voice assistant, featuring intelligence by Perplexity and voice AI powered by SoundHound AI. Unlike conventional systems that largely depend on predefined commands, the assistant is designed to handle conversational requests and provide relevant responses.
Drivers can ask it to plan a road trip, check real-time weather, suggest hotels and restaurants, identify the top five shopping destinations nearby, or provide sports coverage, scores and insights. The idea is to make the vehicle a more useful travel companion, rather than simply a system for controlling in-car functions.
For everyday tasks, the SUV also supports more than 500 embedded voice commands in English, Hindi, Hinglish, Tamil, Bengali and Telugu. These commands can operate several in-car functions without an internet connection, helping users access frequently needed features even when connectivity is unavailable.
Inside, the BAYON features dual 62.5 cm (12.3-inch plus 12.3-inch) curved panoramic displays, bringing driving information, navigation, entertainment and connected functions into a unified digital cockpit.
Its Connected Car Navigation Cockpit, accelerated by NVIDIA, offers online navigation, split-screen functionality, a personalised control panel and smartphone-like quick controls. Individual user profiles and customisable interfaces are designed to make frequently used functions easier to access.
The technology is intended to keep evolving after the vehicle leaves the showroom. The BAYON can receive over-the-air updates through up to 19 vehicle controllers, allowing software enhancements and feature updates to be delivered remotely. HMIL says this can make feature roll-outs more efficient, reduce maintenance requirements and support safety and security improvements.
Hyundai Bluelink brings more than 70 connected features to the BAYON, including remote start and stop, vehicle information, remote controls, smartphone and smartwatch connectivity, location services, navigation and safety features.
The SUV also caters to India’s linguistic diversity through an interface supporting 10 regional languages and two international languages. The company says this is intended to make vehicle information and key functions more accessible to customers across the country.
Under the bonnet, the BAYON gets a four-cylinder, 1.5-litre MPi petrol engine producing 115 PS (84.4 kW) and 144 Nm of torque (14.7 kgm). Buyers will be able to choose between a six-speed manual transmission and Hyundai’s Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT).
The combination of a conventional petrol powertrain with an AI-led technology package places the emphasis on both everyday usability and digital convenience.
With its India launch set for 26 October 2026, the BAYON’s proposition rests on bringing conversational AI, connected services and software updates into the driving experience. Pricing beyond the Rs 11,000 booking amount and further launch details are yet to be announced.
