SA: Ensly Dooms has been promoted to marketing communications manager at Mercedes-Benz Vans South Africa, capping a rapid climb through the ranks of one of the world’s most storied car brands.

Dooms takes the wheel this month, moving up from a role in product marketing and brand engagement at Mercedes-Benz South Africa, a post held for close to two years. The promotion caps a run that has already delivered results: Dooms’s team secured eight marketing award wins for the launch of the new V-Class in South Africa, including a clean sweep at the WesBank New Generation Awards for the “Keep Them Guessing” campaign.

The appointment builds on a career spent almost entirely in automotive communications. Before joining Mercedes-Benz, Dooms spent over two years at Mercedes-Benz AG’s Region Overseas content studio, steering regional campaigns across markets as far-flung as Japan, Brazil, Türkiye and Mexico, including the group’s marquee Chinese New Year and Ramadan campaigns. Earlier still came six years at Ford Middle East, where Dooms ran digital and social strategy across the Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific, and a stint at Ford South Africa that put the brand at number one among local auto and consumer names on social media.

The early years were forged at Ogilvy Johannesburg, juggling accounts for Ford, KFC and Häagen-Dazs, and at Mazda Southern Africa, before that at the National Burn Association of South Africa, an unlikely training ground for a career now built on horsepower and headlines.

From burns unit to boardroom, Dooms’s trajectory reads like a well-executed campaign brief: bold moves, sharp results, and no signs of taking the foot off the accelerator.
