MUMBAI: For Rohit Varier, the latest chapter in a career built around shaping narratives has come with a new title of its own. Deloitte has elevated its corporate and marketing communications leader, Rohit Varier, to the position of executive director, marking a significant milestone in his professional journey.

The promotion places Varier in a partner-level leadership role within one of the world’s largest professional services firms and reflects the growing strategic importance of communications in today’s complex business environment.

Varier, who announced the development on LinkedIn, has spent the last eight years with Deloitte South Asia, where he has led corporate and marketing communications initiatives across the region. Over the course of his tenure, he has played a key role in strengthening the firm’s reputation, stakeholder engagement and brand positioning in an increasingly competitive market.

With more than two decades of experience, Varier has built a career spanning public relations, corporate communications, brand building and reputation management. Before joining Deloitte, he spent over a decade in the communications consulting industry, advising clients across sectors including technology, automotive, FMCG, aviation, financial services, infrastructure and energy. His experience also includes working with several Big Four firms, giving him a deep understanding of the professional services landscape.

The elevation comes as Deloitte continues to expand its ambitions in India and the wider South Asian market. As organisations navigate economic uncertainty, regulatory complexity and rapidly evolving stakeholder expectations, communications functions are increasingly being viewed as business-critical rather than merely supportive.

In his new role as executive director, Varier is expected to focus on aligning business priorities, marketing strategies and communications objectives into cohesive growth narratives. The role will also involve managing a broad range of stakeholders while helping shape the firm’s market positioning and influence.

Congratulating him on the achievement, Deloitte South Asia CEO Romal Shetty wrote on LinkedIn, “Hearty congratulations Rohit on a tremendous achievement. Welcome to the leadership.”

Reflecting on his journey, Varier used his announcement to acknowledge the profession that shaped his career. He wrote, “PR and Communications gave me a front-row seat to business, leadership, reputation building, public affairs, media, and countless stories. It opened doors I never knew existed and introduced me to some of the most remarkable people I have met. For that, my first thank you goes to the profession itself.”

A mass media graduate by training, Varier noted that a career at Deloitte was once beyond anything he had imagined. In his post, he credited the organisation with giving him the opportunity to experiment, challenge conventions and contribute beyond the traditional boundaries of a communications role.

Throughout his career, Varier has developed expertise across brand and marketing communications, leadership positioning, media relations, digital strategy, product launches, public affairs, and issues and crisis management. Those skills are expected to play an increasingly important role as businesses seek to balance growth ambitions with reputation management in a fast-changing environment.

His elevation underscores a broader trend across corporate India, where communications leaders are earning a stronger seat at the leadership table. For Deloitte, the move signals confidence in the strategic value of communications. For Varier, it marks the culmination of a journey that began in media and public relations and has now reached the executive leadership ranks of one of the world’s most influential consulting firms.
