boAt partners with Spotify Premium to bundle free subscription with products
India’s audio giant pairs its hardware with music streaming and a cheeky campaign, wagering that bundling beats building alone
GURUGRAM: boAt has struck a strategic partnership with Spotify Premium, bundling eligible boAt products with four months of ad free streaming, the first twelve weeks on the house, in a move that marries India’s leading audio and wearables brand with one of the world’s biggest music platforms. The pitch is straightforward: premium hardware paired with uninterrupted, offline capable, high quality streaming, so listeners no longer have to choose between good sound and complete songs.
The partnership arrives dressed in a cheeky campaign called HALF the Experience, built around the gag that interruptions, tinny audio and generic devices leave music forever unfinished. The campaign film stages a concert where everything is comically halved, three string guitars, half a drum kit, an audience clapping with one hand, before the artist steps out of the listener’s earphones to needle them directly, urging them to stop settling for adhura gaana and switch to boAt with Spotify Premium thrown in free. It is broad, youth skewing humour, but it lands the point with more charm than most bundling campaigns manage.
Strategically, this is boAt doing what increasingly smart consumer brands do: rather than trying to out build a global content platform, it is renting Spotify’s catalogue and using it as a wedge to sell more hardware. For Spotify, the logic runs the other way, a distribution partnership with India’s top audio brand puts Premium in front of a young, price sensitive, mass market audience it has long struggled to convert from free tier listening. Both sides get something they could not efficiently build alone.
The timing also flatters boAt’s broader turnaround story. The company, owned by Imagine Marketing Limited, returned to profitability in FY2025 and now manufactures 71 per cent of its units locally, backed by an in house R&D outfit of more than 100 engineers. A splashy, culturally fluent bundle like this one signals a company confident enough in its core business to spend on brand building rather than just discounting, and confident that Indian consumers will reward experience over price alone. If HALF the Experience lands the way boAt hopes, expect rivals in India’s crowded audio market to come chasing their own streaming tie ups soon enough.
