CALIFORNIA: Cloud nine turned into the top line for Alphabet as the Google parent posted a blockbuster second quarter, with artificial intelligence continuing to fuel rapid growth across its business.

The technology giant reported consolidated revenue of $119.8 billion for the second quarter of 2026, up 24 per cent from a year earlier. The performance marked Alphabet’s 12th consecutive quarter of double digit revenue growth, underlining the company’s ability to translate its AI investments into stronger financial results.

Operating income climbed 30 per cent year on year to $40.8 billion, while operating margin improved to 34 per cent. Net income surged to $112.1 billion, helped by a $98 billion unrealised gain on equity securities.

The biggest growth engine was Google Cloud, where revenue soared 82 per cent to $24.8 billion as businesses stepped up spending on AI infrastructure and enterprise AI solutions. Operating income for the cloud division almost tripled, rising from $2.8 billion in the same quarter last year to $8.8 billion.

Alphabet’s core services business also delivered healthy growth. Revenue from Google Services increased 15 per cent to $94.5 billion, led by Google Search & other, which rose 17 per cent to $63.3 billion. Revenue from subscriptions, platforms and devices grew 15 per cent to $12.9 billion, while YouTube advertising generated $11.1 billion, up 13 per cent from a year ago.

“Our AI investments are redefining what’s possible across every part of our business. Q2 was an amazing quarter, with Alphabet revenues growing 24 per cent year over year and Google Cloud revenues accelerating to 82 per cent growth, driven by demand for AI infrastructure and AI solutions,” Alphabet Inc. chief executive officer Sundar Pichai said.

Pichai said AI adoption continues to gather pace across both enterprise and consumer products. Nearly 90 per cent of Fortune 100 companies are now using Gemini Enterprise, while Google’s Gemini models process 22 billion API tokens every minute. The Gemini App has also expanded to 950 million monthly active users.

Consumer engagement remained robust beyond AI. During the FIFA World Cup 2026, more than 1.7 billion unique viewers watched tournament content on YouTube, highlighting the platform’s growing role during major global sporting events.

To keep pace with rising AI demand, Alphabet significantly increased spending on infrastructure. Property and equipment purchases reached $44.9 billion during the quarter as the company expanded its computing capacity. It also strengthened its balance sheet by raising $49.6 billion through stock offerings and issuing $20.3 billion in senior unsecured notes.

The latest results reinforce Alphabet’s strategy of investing aggressively in AI infrastructure while continuing to grow its advertising and cloud businesses. With cloud demand accelerating, enterprise AI adoption widening and consumer engagement remaining strong, the company appears well positioned to stay at the forefront of the rapidly evolving artificial intelligence market.
