MUMBAI: Talk about a home advantage, some Airbnb guests can now wake up with match tickets waiting in the living room. As the FIFA World Cup 2026 sweeps across 16 host cities in Canada, Mexico and the United States, Airbnb is giving football fans a chance to score more than just accommodation. The company has launched a programme offering free match tickets with select stays, turning holiday bookings into potential front-row passes to the world’s biggest sporting spectacle.

Available from today, select Airbnb listings across all host cities will include complimentary tickets to World Cup matches taking place in their respective locations. The homes, averaging $385 per night, cover fixtures ranging from the group stages and knockout rounds to the tournament’s grand finale.

The initiative is designed to help supporters follow their teams throughout the competition while experiencing host cities through local stays rather than traditional hotels. Listings that include tickets will be marked with a football icon and prominently highlight the benefit on the booking page.

The offer rolls out in phases aligned with the tournament schedule. Homes linked to group-stage matches and the Round of 32 become bookable from 10 June, while bookings for the Round of 16 open on 18 June. Access to homes tied to the quarter-finals begins on 1 July, followed by the semi-finals on 9 July and the final on 16 July.

The knockout stages span some of the tournament’s biggest venues, including Los Angeles, New York/New Jersey, Mexico City, Dallas, Seattle, Boston, Miami, Atlanta and Kansas City. The World Cup final will take place in New York/New Jersey, making it one of the most sought-after bookings of the tournament.

Airbnb said guests who secure eligible stays will receive tickets for everyone included in the booking, subject to the maximum guest capacity of the property. Hosts will share details on accessing tickets once reservations are confirmed.

The programme forms part of Airbnb’s broader World Cup push. By the end of the tournament, the company expects hosts and guests to have received more than 1,300 complimentary tickets, including surprise upgrades for travellers who had already booked accommodation during the group stage.

The move reflects the growing convergence of travel and live sport, with brands increasingly looking for ways to turn major events into immersive fan experiences. For football supporters, the World Cup has always been about chasing moments. Airbnb’s latest play simply adds a front door to the journey.

After all, for some lucky fans in 2026, checking in could be the first step towards checking into the stadium as well.
