Adidas begins layoffs at Gurgaon tech hub, up to half of workforce affected
Software engineers, data scientists and data engineers among roles affected in reported layoffs
GURUGRAM: Adidas has reportedly begun layoffs at its India Technology Hub in Gurgaon, with more than 350 employees estimated to be affected, according to media reports.
The reported job cuts could impact around 45 to 50 per cent of the hub’s workforce of about 700 employees. Software engineers, data scientists and data engineers are among the roles reportedly affected.
Employees were informed about the layoffs during a town hall on 15 September, according to the reports. Adidas has confirmed that it is reducing roles within its Technology organisation in India, but has not disclosed the number of employees affected.
The affected employees have reportedly been divided into two groups. One group received exit letters on 15 September, while the second has been asked to continue until 15 December to complete handovers to colleagues at other technology hubs.
Employees in the second group have also reportedly been given time to explore other roles within Adidas. Those unable to secure another position by 15 December are expected to have that date as their last working day.
Details of severance packages, notice pay and redeployment support for affected employees have not been confirmed.
Adidas is restructuring parts of its technology organisation as it seeks to simplify operations and strengthen capabilities amid changes in the business and technology landscape. The company has also said that India remains a strategically important market and that its Technology Hub will continue to support growth, innovation and digital transformation.
The Gurgaon facility houses Adidas’ local marketing organisation as well as one of its Global Engineering Tech Hubs. The company has expanded its wider India operations in recent years, including the opening of a Global Business Services centre in Chennai in 2024.
